CBS’ remake of The Equalizer strays from the original series, but its departure from the source material is what makes it one of TV’s hottest shows.

Grammy Award winner and Oscar nominee Queen Latifah stars in and executive produces CBS’ reboot of The Equalizer, the Edward Woodward series that had a five-year run from 1985-1989. Woodward starred as former intelligence officer Robert McCall, a role taken on by Denzel Washington in two films in 2014 and 2018, but the reboot has completely changed the character. Latifah is making her mark as the new Equalizer — now named Robyn McCall — and setting herself apart from both previous iterations.
